Mary Creagh To Chair EAC, Efra Committee Chair Battle Still On

Mary Creagh will today be officially confirmed as the chair of the Government’s Environmental Audit Commission, while there is a three-way battle for the role of chair of the Efra Committee.

Creagh was the only nomination for the position, which she had previously held, and will therefore be declared to be elected unopposed when the Speaker announces the result of the Chair elections after the ballot held later today.

She received 15 nominations from within her own party (Labour), and five from other parties, including one vote from Caroline Lucas, leader of the Green Party. She was re-e;ected as MP for Wakefield in the latest election, a seat she has held since 2005.

The chairmanship of the Efra Committee, however, will be confirmed later today and will go to either Zac Goldsmith – the Conservative NP for Richmond Park and former London Mayoral candidate; Neil Prrish – the Labour MP for Tiverton and Honiton; or Bill Wiggin – Conservative MP for North Herefordshire and a former Shadow Minister for Agriculture & Fisheries.
